Logitech Showcases The G502 Proteus Core Alongside Other Lifestyle Products

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14, 2014 – Logitech tosses in a flair of style and a dash of colours into the lifestyle of their users with the launch of their new lineup of products. The latest additions include the Logitech M235 FY15 Colour Collection, Logitech M545, Logitech M165, all of which are wireless mice; unveiled also are the Logitech MK240 wireless mouse and keyboard combo, Logitech Z443 speakers and the star of the show for KENYSL.com, the Logitech G502 Proteus Core Tunable Gaming Mouse.

First unveiled during PAX East 2014, the Logitech G502 was designed with the notion that every gamer is unique and that their gear should be adjustable to suit their own personal uniqueness. This can be seen from the new weight system being introduced in the G502 that provides gamers more control over the balance of the entire mouse with five 3.6g weights. Other than that, the mouse also features a surface tuning calibration function that is new to the Logitech line of gaming mice. If you read my 'Best of PAX East 2014' post, you would also be aware that the G502's sensor is currently the top of the line sensor that can perform up to 12000 DPI. One thing that the event seem to gloss over was the G-Shift function that allows the 11 programmable keys step up to 21 programmable keys. Even though this function was already seen on the G600 before, I still think it's a pretty neat function to be re-introduced and I hope that Logitech will allow this function to extend to more within their gaming line and not only a particular few mice.

Another interesting thing that was unveiled at the event was the Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter. I think a lot of you already have a nice audio setup as well as a large music library inside your smartphone or other devices like a tablet of some sort. This particular add-on will work on any sort of speakers that support 2.1 stereo output. By the simple act of connecting your speakers via 3.5mm jacks to the add-on, your speakers will now support Bluetooth connectivity and play your music library wirelessly.

Logitech also revealed it's new updated pico-receiver, which is an upgrade from the currently circulating nano-receiver. The pico-receiver now only measures in at 3mm which again, makes it the smallest receiver in the market. For the first time ever, I'm inclined to agree that the quote 'plug in and forget' Logitech uses. The pico-receiver will be included with the new M545 wireless mouse that will be launching later in the year.

Pricing and availability wise, available at the coming weeks are the G502 @ MYR 239, the M235 @ MYR 59, the Z443 @ MYR 299 and also the Bluetooth Audio Adapater @ MYR 129. Other than that, the M545, the M165 and the MK240 are to be made available within the second half of the year.

What do you think about Logitech's upcoming products? Personally I'm excited for the G502 but unfortunately there is a very long waiting list to get that particular review sample so it would be some time before I can do a full review on it. On the bright side though, I have a review of the G19s Gaming Keyboard coming up very soon on the blog so stay tuned for that.

KENYSL.com @ OPPO Find 7 Launch Event

Yesterday, I was at the launch event for the much anticipated OPPO Find 7 that was held at Pullman KL Bangsar. Media registration started at 3:30pm but the event didn't start until 4:30pm; too much of a leeway in my opinion and I overheard people who share the same piece of mind. At least OPPO Malaysia provided enough spring rolls for everyone on scene. Two showgirls holding the Find 7 and Find 7a were also there for people to take photos of.

OPPO Find 7 Launch Event Happening on 7th May

Find 7 Event Announcement

While news has been floating around that the OPPO Find 7 will be launching in Malaysia on 7th of May, I haven't been notified of anything from OPPO Malaysia therefore I have been actively denying the news. I have just been notified by my contact in OPPO that there is indeed a launch event for the Find 7 happening next Wednesday, 7th May 2014.

Are you excited for the Find 7? I personally find it a very interesting situation, seeing how OPPO Malaysia is doing pre-orders for the Find 7a but not the innovator (yes, I just coined that term because not calling the Find 7a a flagship is weird.). Again, I will be there covering the event so stay tuned on the website!

Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+ To Launch In Malaysia This Friday

Another pleasant surprise as I am invited to attend the launch event for Alcatel One Touch Idol X+. Alongside with the Idol X+,  the Idol Alpha will also be present at the event too.

In the invitation, the word 'true Octa-core' stands out from the rest of the text. I think everyone has heard about Samsung's Exynos processor that is also technically Octa-core but in truth only a Quad-core. For Alcatel OneTouch to use such wordings.... truly an interesting sight to behold. Well, I will only know when I get my hands on the Idol X+ so stay tuned on kenysl.com :)

kenysl.com @ OPPO N1 Launch Event

As I have mentioned in the post a week ago, I was invited to attend the OPPO N1 Launch event happening at 18th February, KLCC.

Ken's Best of CES 2014

If you weren't in the know, the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show just went down in Las Vegas over the last week. There were a lot of products/concepts unveiled throughout the show and here I am highlighting the things I'm most excited for.

Samsung Galaxy Pro Line Tablets
Now before you Android people all start yelling "#HOLOYOLO" at me, let me at least express myself. I have always deemed that the 7"inch and 8"inch tablet form factor is too small for me, when people hear that, they would just ask me to go get a 10"inch form factor tablet. Let's just say that there are times where I complain that even my iPad 2 is too small for me to get any meaningful work done.

So you might be wondering, what am I going on about? 10.1"inch is the largest form factor, there is nothing bigger! Well that's about to be changed with the entry of Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2. The form factor is of course 12.2"inch as you would acknowledge from the name. The reason I'm excited for this other than the perfect screen size for me, is that the user interface dubbed Magazine UX looks very intuitive and seems fit for a tablet compared to the stock Android skin. While Samsung is trying to market this as a laptop replacement with a full fledged QWERTY software keyboard and partnering up with manufacturers to produce keyboard docks for the Pro tablets, I do not think this will have what it takes for me to ditch lodging my notebook around. The Verge hands-on video can pretty much show you everything you need to know about this tablet to share my excitement! There's a big chance I would be grabbing the Note Pro 12.2 to replace my HTC One X, hehe.

Razer Project Christine
"OMFG, first you mention Samsung, now Razer??!" No matter how much you hate Razer, you must admit that they are pretty much the pioneers of a lot of things. No need to dig in too far back, the Razer Blade was the first gaming notebook that broke the "bulky and heavy" stereotype of gaming notebooks which then started a slew of thin form factor gaming notebooks like the MSI GS70, the new Aorous X7 and much more. So, what is Project Christine? I don't even know where to start so watch this video down below.

Wonderful, now that you watched the video, you should be as speechless as I am. Even though upgrading/building a PC is easy as ABC if you put the effort into it, some people might not want to go through the hassle of sorting out the cable management and what not. Project Christine makes that a non-factor with it's plug-and-play-esque design. I'm excited about this because if this is the direction of where PC building is going towards, I won't complain seeing how awesome it looks and how simple it will be. While I'm definitely sure that the Razer Project Christine will be sold at a high premium, I hope this will kickstart a new trend like how Razer did with the Blade and Project Fiona (Edge)

Sony PlayStation Now
If you don't really know me that well, let me just tell you now that I'm a PC guy and home consoles are not really my groove. Why the PlayStation Now intrigues me is because I'm really interested in playing the exclusives like The Last of Us, Uncharted, Infamous and etc, but I'm not intrigued to the point that I am going to go out of my way to buy a box that does nothing but gaming. The PlayStation Now fills the missing pieces in between, without having to buy a PlayStation console, I am able to game via the 'cloud' and stream to my existing devices. While I have a feeling that Sony will lock this cloud gaming feature to their own devices and that Malaysia will never see the light of such service, the concept of such service is what I really like and hope to see much more widespread in the future.

Dell P2815Q
So you might be asking what's so special about this monitor from Dell, and I would answer "Pixels". Yes it's a 3840x2160 28"inch display and that's not all. This monitor starts from *drumrolls* $699! Well that might sound a lot but in contrast with other currently available 4K solutions, this monitor is almost half of the price of existing solutions. Will we finally see 4K monitors that will be much more affordable with the launch of this monitor? Hopefully so and time will tell.

Corsair RGB Backlit Mechanical Keyboard
Corsair teased about this a while back, and this CES, they truly delivered it. It's hard to describe what the difference between this and a normal backlit mechanical keyboard in text, so I will leave it to Linus to show you the amazing-ness of this keyboard.
This keyboard shines really amazingly and I would definitely love to get my hands on one... (if I could afford it that is.)

Honourable Mentions:
1. All the smart cars on CES (especially the BMW i3)
2. MSI's secret thin gaming notebook (probably just a GS70 refresh)
3. Mad Genius Controllers (awesome motion controller concept)

I guess that's my "Best of CES". What's yours? My next post will probably be a review. A review of what I have yet to finalize, but it will be coming up soon enough! Stay tuned!

Ken's 2013 Round-up

So I figured since it is almost the end of the year now that I would write a quick round-up about everything significant this year.

I wanted to say that college took most of my time this year but that is obviously not true as I just finished my first semester in HELP. So what have I been doing for the months which I was having my so called "study break".

Well, the first half of 2013 was quite uneventful other than me officially starting to write reviews on my blog and not forgetting my virgin review of the Steelseries Siberia V2 Gaming Headset which is still what I consider as a not "half-assed" review. That review really brought along a lot of opportunities, one of which is joining along side StashDen (thank you, Andrik, really learnt a lot from you) to bring my reviews to the masses. Unfortunate to say that StashDen has been idle since September/October as the team has shift focus onto other tasks.

Other than that, the post also brought along a missed opportunity, which was a contact within Armaggeddon (Samuel, thank you for recognizing my efforts when I initially started). I got to talk to them about collaborating but due to unforeseen events, in the end it didn't work out. Also not forgetting Lowyat forum which is basically the platform that made these 2 amazing things happen. Nevertheless, it's been a good run, but I think I will have another review up before considering if I should proceed with my future plans which I will mention near the end of this post.

So now, about college life. It's pretty awesome. Much more enjoyable than working (but that might be depending on what job you have). The first semester of college had taught me a lot of things and allowed me to meet even more amazing people! In one of my tweets, I mentioned that college is all about doing things you would never have thought of doing before. One of them is being a part of "Smiles for Hope", a charity project aimed to aid Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital. It's been more than an assignment to me, partially because in that project I could see passion radiate from people and also not forgetting the other extreme, indifference. Oh, and here's what I did for Smiles for Hope!

The classes I had in college were great fun too, also giving me amazing opportunities. I had an assignment which required me to interview someone who I deemed successful. The people around me just went ahead and interviewed what I would call "the regular joes". So me being myself, I swore to not bore my lecturer and wanted to interview someone very interesting. First, I approached Logan from TekSyndicate, who runs a website and YouTube channel which revolves around technology. While I didn't get to have a real interview with him per say, Logan and co answered my questions in a video which you can check out below, you can watch from the beginning but if you're so keen on saving time, it starts @ 0:37. So I turned around and approached Luminous, someone who you would be familiar with if you were to follow the Dota 2 E-Sports scene. In short, he is a big name in casting Dota 2 games. Fortunately I got to interview him via Skype but I lost the chat log due to my notebook deciding to go all mambo on me. Here's the assignment if you would like to have a jab at that.

I'm also currently in the committee behind C2AGE, an exhibition about anime, comics and stuff which you find out more on their website. I'm in charge of a lot of the designing so now I can show you guys exclusive pictures! (haha)
C2AGE 2014 Car Sticker! :D

C2AGE 2014 Pocket Calendar (with the dates behind of course)
All in all, it's been a fantastic year for self-improvement and mind-opening nonetheless. About my future plans, I'm planning to move this blog onto it's own domain, preferably kenysl.com but I will see to it. While the content might not solely consist of tech reviews, I still hope I can write content that resembles my stance on technology. Oh and also sorry if the post seems to be a tad bit of un-chronological because this was written over a span of few days and the writing style might vary time to time. (haha)

That's all for now, kenysl signing off.

Ken's experience at the first ever MSI Gamer Gathering

So I attended the first ever MSI Gamer Gathering @ The Kitchen, Kelab Victoria. That's all. Thanks for reading! Just kidding, I bet those who are reading this post are as curious as those who didn't attend. So what really went down on 14th September? Let's get started.

First of all, let's go through the itinerary for the event.
Sounds like a pretty mundane event eh? Sometimes it's the attendees who make an event really amazing. I will elaborate about that further down in the post so keep reading.

After getting checked-in to the event by two lovely ladies from MSI, attendees get an MSI goodie bag. What is in the goodie bag you may ask? A scarf, an MSI Gaming Dragoon badge and a certificate of participation.
2 lovely ladies ^^ cr: MSI Malaysia NB
We start off the event with DuskBin players show match. Well actually it was DuskBin 3+2 as 2 stand-ins were chosen from the attendees. The showcase went very well, due to unforeseen baddies on the opposite team which I got the audience to agree too haha.

We continue with a short speech/story as told by the man in charge of MSI operations in Malaysia then followed by the presentation by MSI about the technology they implemented in their Gaming Series notebooks. My only spite with this particular session is that the session was just to general and it's like someone reading the catalogue to you. What I would had like to hear instead was like their design philosophy/choices as to why they used this technology in this particular notebook and not the other one, or why the different build materials/quality. With that being said though, it wasn't like some sort of technology conference but just my two cents. It was just there to convince people why MSI is a better choice than ASUS/Alienware when choosing a gaming notebook.

Moving along now, we have the exhibition match between attendees and DuskBin players. For balance's sake, DuskBin players were divided into the 2 teams thus making 2 DuskBin 2 + 3 volunteers. Unfortunately there were no notable highlight for the match.

Then we have a player sharing session. We had a LoL pro player share some of his experience and opinion on the pro scene of both Dota2 and LoL. It was quite a good listen, and I learned some good insight! Later on the stage we had an admin from DotaTalk and followed by a player from RunEmo(CrossFire).

That's is really everything general about the event so if you don't like people doing some self reflection on an event you can tune out now.

Oh you are still here? Let's get started shall we.

I went to this event without knowing what it would be like, actually I went to the event on sheer interest and just meet StashDen's Andrik after writing for them for about 4 months. I came out from the event surprised as I met a lot of cool people at the event.

First of all, I shall mention Kenneth from Sunway Uni. He's one of the few who brought along his MSI GE620DX(not sure about the last 2 characters). Sadly we were the only two who set up our notebooks further from the stage area. A pretty cool guy who won a limited edition MSI X SteelSeries Siberia V2 (damn jelly I am) Looking forward to talk to him more some day.

Another lucky son of a gun to win the limited edition was an English teacher who drove all the way down to the event from Kuala Lipis (sorry forgot about your name bro, your story was too overwhelming xD) He owns the recently introduced GE40 with the lit Dragon Eyes. Talking to him just really proves to me that you can be a gamer, no matter how old, as long as you devote the time/resources to enjoy yourself as a gamer.

Last but not least, Adrian from PJ(?) dubbed the most hardcore MSI notebook fan there is, owning all 3 generations of the GT series notebooks (where do you get the damn money from TT) and coming to the event as early as 8 or at an even earlier time that I couldn't remember. Damn guy is so hardcore, Chuck Norris has to step aside when he comes by.

Overall I come out from this event pleasantly surprised. Would I go to the next one? Of course I will and I would certainly endorse those who are interested to just come and chill. Peace.

P/S: I asked around for photos of the event but it seems that only MSI is in posession of said photos and I have no idea when would they finally post it. Weird delay if you ask me, if they uploaded the photos to FB more people would had known about the event and eyebrows would certainly be raised. Sigh, readers will just have to deal with a no photo post :( so sorry, will bring my camera next time.

UPDATE 23/9/2013: FINALLY... PHOTOS, but seriously, here's the link https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.225587370932914.1073741857.137206639770988&type=3
